Dongle Usage on the Rise for Orange

Orange dongle subscribers have increased by more than 504 per cent within a period of one year according to the recently released fifth issue of its Digital Media Index. Its mobile broadband business is clearly booming and this is likely to give a major boost to the company’s earnings.

Analysts at Orange are of the opinion that the rise in subscriptions can be attributed to the fact that an increasing number of costumers these days wish to benefit from the flexibility mobile broadband offers, allowing users to remain connected on the go.

A surge in the number of subscribers, as one would expect, translated into a tremendous increase in data consumption with Orange reporting a 4,125 percent spurt in usage. This means that Orange’s average monthly data usage now stands at a massive 386 thousand gigabytes.

Director of products, portals and services for Orange, Paul Jevon, said that the Orange Digital Media Index clearly indicates the arrival of mobile broadband into the mainstream market. He also said that costumers are enjoying the internet experience that mobile broadband offers them as they face no hiccups in terms of data quantity or the quality that lands on their devices. Moreover, applications specifically made for mobile usage are also a hit with the users with mobile internet pay as you go being a popular option.

Orange now boasts of 3.8 million users who avail of mobile broadband connectivity through either their dongles or their 3G enabled handhelds. According to Jevon, mobile broadband will further gain in popularity in the coming months as new embedded laptops invade the market, making access even more convenient.
